Segment Master
The Segment Master is the industrial fieldbus controller that aggregates cell telemetry, runs first-stage anomaly logic, and forwards events to the vessel gateway. One segment master serves a bounded population of sensor cells; multiple masters serve a deck; multiple decks serve a vessel.
Why a deterministic fieldbus
Detection latency is the entire product. A best-effort IP network is not adequate for time-bounded delivery of alerts on a moving steel platform with electromagnetic noise from machinery, comms, and navigation systems. EtherCAT-class deterministic networking gives us sub-millisecond polling, bounded jitter, and a topology that survives a single-node failure without blinding the segment.
What it does
- Polls all cells in its segment at fixed sub-millisecond cadence.
- Runs first-stage modality fusion and per-cell baseline drift detection.
- Maintains a fail-safe local store of the last N minutes of telemetry independent of the uplink.
- Issues tiered alerts according to a documented escalation policy.
- Holds dual-path redundancy so a single physical break does not silence a segment.
Operational envelope
Integration
The segment master speaks to upstream systems over a documented event and telemetry interface and is designed to integrate with existing bridge consoles and shore-side IT without architectural change to the host vessel's networks.
